While you were living the “catch flights, not feelings” life, you might have been missing out on these Canadian gems. Pack your warmest plaid because here are 7 winter cabins, cottages, and unique escapes to help you embrace winter.

Norfolk County - St. Williams

The Mabee Marsh Cabin at Long Point Eco-Adventures is the perfect place to get away! It's equipped with a complimentary hot chocolate bar, a cozy wood fireplace, an outdoor fire pit, and over 90 km of hiking/biking trails to explore!

Since the cabin has a full kitchen, you can show your support for local businesses by purchasing your groceries and trying a recipe from the Cider Keg. Cooking something warm and tasty is the perfect way for friends and family to spend a cold winter night!

Want to feel even closer to nature? New this year, Long Point Eco-Adventures' glamping pods will remain open during the winter.

Within walking distance of Long Point Eco-Adventures is the Burning Kiln Winery. Grab a tasting flight or make a reservation at the winery's new restaurant, The Back Kitchen.

If you are looking for another cozy accommodation in the area, complimentary wine tastings are included for guests who stay at the Burning Kiln's Farmhouse

Bring your cross-country skis because these beautiful cottages are located on either side of the Pinery which has 38 kilometres of trails open. We suggest going during the week because that is when this popular park is less busy.

You may also wish to visit Dark Horse Estate Winery; a jaw-droppingly beautiful and award-winning winery! Or consider walking the adorable alpacas at Sylvan Alpacas!

For food, we recommend visiting The Lake Hound, or the Tipsy Pelican

Lungovita Beach Retreat - Harrow

If you like glamping, spas, or something a little bit different, Lungovita is the winter getaway you've been craving. It is the perfect space for adults to get away from their busy lives and be in nature, without giving up any luxuries or comforts from home. It is glamping on steroids because your stay will be complete with all of the luxuries of home and some additional amenities you may not have at home as well (yes, we are talking about their hot tubs and saunas that are available year-round).

If you book a stay before February 29th, 2024, you can take advantage of their winter special for 2 nights and 3 wine tastings at local wineries at a discounted rate. Click here to learn more.

Since this accommodation doesn’t have a full kitchen, you have an excuse to take a break from cooking! Cooper’s Hawk is a local winery that serves excellent food at their onsite restaurant called The Vines. Another close-by option is the Bistro at North 42 Degrees Estate Winery! The Bistro is a Feast On Certified restaurant, which means that they source their supplies from local farms.

Fernwood Hills – Komoka

Fernwood Hills has three accommodations that are ideal for anyone looking to get away and relax. The Studio Loft, the Adler Cabin (pictured below), and the Bracken Cabin.

While in the area, if you're looking to get outside and experience some thrilling winter fun, check out the snow tubing hill at Boler Mountain

The Harold Cabin at Long Point Lodge – Port Rowan

The Harold Cabin is a great fit for a group of four to enjoy a winter hyper-local vacation at the Long Point Lodge.

This lakeside cabin is breathtaking in the winter months and has a kitchen so that you can still prepare your own meals without needing to go out for food. Stop by the Port Rowan Farmers’ Market to pick up your groceries locally.

If you aren’t interested in cooking, check out the Country Fork, this restaurant offers options that are sure to please even the pickiest eaters.

oTentiks – Leamington

For nature lovers who want to experience the great outdoors in the day, but stay toasty warm at night, you’ll love the oTentiks at Camp Henry, Point Pelee National Park. These beautiful cabins are heated and can fit up to six people.

Complete with a fire pit, a BBQ, a storage container for your food, and all your kitchen utensils. But since you are on vacation, we wouldn't blame you for wanting to take a break from cooking and grabbing a bite to eat from Ships Ahoy, which is conveniently located right outside of the park. Other local options for food include Cured Craft Brewing Co. and Crave Family Grill & Pub.

For the nature enthusiast, make sure to check out Pelee Wing’s Nature Store online before leaving your home. This store has everything that you need for an outdoor adventure. You can order the perfect pair of binoculars online and pick it up from the store on your way into the park.

The Sleepy Goat Nature Lodge -  Alvinston

The Sleepy Goat Nature Lodge at Jireh Hills Family Homestead will allow you to live your hobby farm dreams this winter! This new tiny house is located on a sustainable farm. This means you not only have the chance to disconnect from your everyday routine but you also have the chance to reconnect with local food by participating in on-farm experiences such as their Cheese Making experience.
