The outstanding cultural heritage of this river includes more than 11,000 years of continuous occupancy by Canada’s Indigenous Peoples, European exploration and settlement, being part of the Underground Railway, and the birthplace for Canadian agriculture. Some of the landmarks along the Themes River in Southwestern Ontario include: the Thames Lighthouse, Buxton National Historic Site & Museum, and the Chatham Docks.
